Travelin' Time...

Are you planning a short road trip, or a cross country tour or even an exotic getaway this summer?  If you're travelin', whether it's near or far, stop by the store to see two new additions and prepare to scrapbook your vacations!  Both new lines are fabulous! 

The new Fresh Print Traveler collection by Little Yellow Bicycle includes a large variety of embellishments that co-ordinate with the funky, hip papers and look for lots of special pieces in this collection, including a chipboard album with an acrylic cover and a coordinating paper tablet. 
The new Making Memories Great Escape collection includes some fun overlays, great double sided specialty papers, rub ons, blossoms & buttons, dog tags and some great self-adhesive tabs and a whole host of other new items in this line.

More KaiserKraft wood flourishes have arrived in store too, don't miss out on them!

Journaling Tip & Technique

Journaling is often a challenge on layouts. We may feel like we should add more and say more than just the title, but often we don't know what else to say. When this happens to me, I turn to my embellishments. All those brads, rub-ons, stickers, stamps and such can be a great starting point for our journaling. Either they can trigger what you want to say and you can use them as inspiration for your hand journaling (or computer generated if your penmanship isn't to your liking), or you can piece together a few different embellishments like I did on this layout to complete my journaling.

Materials:  Creative Imaginations stamp, alpha stickers, brad, die cut paper and stickers; Prima flowers; Tim Holtz acrylic tag; Bazzill cardstock; unknown bling.

Crop tonight and a Challenge

And now for a little inspiration challenge. I was in H&M the other day checking out some summer clothes when inspiration hit. I saw a t-shirt that said, "Born Wild, Live Free". I immediately thought of my little girl who was definitely born wild and I want her to live free. It inspired me to create a page. It surprises me where and when inspiration to scrap happens. I challenge you to be open to the inspiration around you when you are out shopping, driving your car or out enjoying your surroundings. Use that inspiration to scrap a page this week and share it with us by posting a link in the comments section of this post. I'll work on mine and post it here when it's done!

Tips, techniques & classes

One of my favourite classes to teach so far this year was "Chipboard 101".  The participants of this class walked away with loads of samples and a worksheet that presented chipboard in 5 different ways, added over 60 different techniques for well over 250 different results... And, if they applied more than one technique, there outcomes would be ... well, huge!!!  Chipboard is absolutely one of my favourite things to use in scrapbooking card making, and home decor.  It is highly versatile, and there are literally hundreds of products made with chipboard.  Starting next week, look for this column each wednesday for not only a list of current classes, workshops and events at the Pick of the Patch, but also a chipboard techniques.

Oddly enough, I didnt photograph anything from the "Chipboard 101" class, so I will leave you with a very plain cupcake shaped piece of chipboard that was all dressed up for Valentines day  (I really must learn to photograph stuff)

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS

We would appreciate it if you could bring a "basic" tool kit to each class.  This includes your adhesives, including glue dots and pop dots if possible, a paper trimmer, bone folder, scissors, ruler, pencil, brown and black ink.  We will advise you if extra tools or items are required for specific classes. 

UPCOMING EVENTS!

MAY 30th    We are having yet another great crop room sale.  For those that have been to past sales, we will be having lots of "new to this sale papers" on for 25 cents.  This is a great time to stock up on paper!  We will also be having a huge blow out on Quickutz items and we mean total blow out!!!  We will be having more ribbon at 40 cents a meter and lots more.  Make sure you drop on by!

JUNE 13th    We are having a 10:00am till 10:00 pm crop! 

Cost for the crop is $20 and will include a small goodie bag, a $5 coupon redeemable towards purchases made on June 13th, a door prize draw ticket, and a discount coupon worth a minimum of 10% off regular-priced purchases made on June 13th.

 

There will be challenges and a make and take as well. We will not be providing food as our crop room space is limited, however there are lots of new restaurants open right across the parking lot.

 

Space is limited so call the store at 604-520-5874 to reserve your seat. Payment is required at time of reservation. Refunds will not be given if you cancel unless we can fill your seat. If your seat can be filled, you will receive a refund in the form of a store credit.

New Arrivals and some Inspiration

I've always been a fan of Collage Press with their bold prints, clean clines and bright colours, but then they released Sweet Shoppe and Knave of Hearts and I really fell in love.

When I walked into work at Pick of the Patch a couple of weeks ago I couldn't believe that what I was seeing was from the same paper company. Their newest releases are distressed to the max, but still maintain those bold, rich colours I had loved before, and the distressing, why, it speaks to my love of the vintage.

Sweet Shoppe is full of bright colours with a chocolate and cupcake theme. Anyone who knows me knows I never say no to anything chocolate and my kids are cupcake lovers. I had such a hard time deciding which papers to chose that I bought nearly the entire line. The new die cut circles are so innovative and I can't wait to work with those next, but this is what I was inspired to create first. I love that despite the pinks, this paper works just as well for a boy layout.

 

The Knave of Hearts is fabulous too with a focus on the men in our lives, and more masculine papers you just might be inspired to make some Father's Day projects, however many of these papers will work just as well for the women in your life.

Collage Press has outdone themselves, come on in, check it out, I know you'll fall in love with it all too.
